RE: Gillig Chassis ?

I've heard they were a very good chassis in their day. Question is if they were that good why aren't they still around? They are still around.

RE: Opinions on Elite Motorhomes

As others have said;this is a higher end unit. Interiors were of the best wood, usually Walnut. The Cat 3208 is no longer built but Cat still supports the engines with parts and service. The 3208 was used in thousands of applications including mobile, stationary and marine situations. While dated the 3208 and the Elite Motor Homes that have been properly cared for are still good performers. As for the Gillig chassis, Gillig has been around a hundred years or so and is well known for their chassis for fire trucks, busses,r.v.s and about any other type of truck built over the years. They are in business today in California and if you contact them with the vin number of your vehicle they can tell you all about what it was built with. For an older unit a well cared for Elite is still a good choice.

RE: Can a fresh water tank be repaired?

Find a R.V. repair and parts place and purchase a Syon repair kit for a fresh water tank. They also make kits to repair the waste water tanks, shower and tub enclosures, fuel tanks, etc. Follow the directions and you will get a quality and lasting fix.

RE: Medical Bills

Explain it this way. Every month you put all your creditors names in a hat and you draw names for payment. Those not drawn don't get paid but have another shot at being drawn the following month. For those who want to cause problems explain to them that they are in danger of their name not even being in the hat next month. Seriously, Usually a pretty good discount is offered if there is any way at all you can come up with the money all at once and some will discount for a minimal number of payments.

RE: Another kind of robbery on the rise.

This has become common wherever vehicles are parked in somewhat out of the way parking lots. Hikers in various state and national parks in Az. have had this problem. The other hot item is the air bag. They are pricy and unscrupulous body shop repairmen purchase on the cheap from a thief and get top dollar on a repair/replacement.

RE: Grand Canyon in the winter...

Be sure to protect the rig against freezing. Water tanks, water lines, etc. Otherwise go for it.

Yep!! If I had a farm in California and a home in Hell, I'd sell the farm and go home.

RE: leaking shower stall

Someone mentioned that your weight will frequently cause a part or parts of the shower pan to push down allowing a very allusive leak. Then when the person steps out of the shower the leak source vanishes. More often than not I have found this very thing to be the problem. Have someone checking around and under the shower/tub or whatever it is while someone is inside with the water on. The problem will show up and is usually solved by much more firm support under the tub or pan and a recalk of all joints that were previously leaking. Also showers and tubs equipped with doors develope leaks around the doors. Leveling with a laser is baloney. A proper installation will not leak vehicle level or not.

RE: Crying A at the Flying J

You were in the wrong and deserved a good chewing out. The lanes are for fueling, you need to move out to dump. I've seen fuel lines back up like crazy because of stunts like that. I'm glad you won't be in any more Flyin J's, that's one less inconsiderate person we have to deal with. This is probably the guy you ran into at the FJ the other day. Bet he keeps everybody shaped up and on pins and needles all at the same time.

RE: Crying A at the Flying J

Don't forget, you are the customer. So what if you were in the wrong lane? There is nothing wrong with killing two birds with one stone and fueling and dumping at the same time. If you are resourceful enough to figure out a better system,More Power to you. If someone pulled into the adjacent lane to fuel I doubt whether he would even notice what was occuring. They probably would have politely waited their turn. So you were wrong. Big deal. You weren't the first and won't be the last' I'd go back tomorrow and do it again. I would not give up my FJ card either. The next time you go back that idiot won't be there. We all know that most FJs are laid out to handle a smaller volume of traffic in the RV lanes than they now receive. Probably a little short sited on their part when they were designing some of their places as well as the availability of land. Ignore the perfectionist critics and do it again.

RE: BEWARE !! CAMPING WORLD ADS

I can understand your unhappiness regarding all of the extra charges by Camping World. I am not a Camping World fan and have never been. That is the only reason I have never been robbed there. Keep in mind tho that where ever you buy your stuff and get your work done you are going to have to pay for delivery charges, shop supplies(lights, water, gas, insurance and on and on) Most outfits just don't break it down and make it so obvious, but rest assured you are going to have to pay these costs. Otherwise rest assured that business won't be there next year when you need them again. As far as camping World goes I don't think anyone needs them and their untrained cheap help. Go someplace else.

RE: Repairing a Hole in My Water Tank

Syon repair kit. they make several types for water tanks, fuel tanks, black and grey water tanks, plastic shower stalls, etc. They can be found at R,v, parts and accessory stores and work quite well.

RE: Rusted "Blow out" Nut

You need to make up some "Weasel Piss" get a common spray bottle, go to the pharmacy and get some wintergreen oil. Mix about 1 ounce of the wintergreen oil with trans. fluid. Best rust buster I have come across. I always thought that was panther piss.

RE: Tire Prices

For everyone buying tires!! Don't forget to check the build dates on the tires you are purchasing. With the prices we are paying these tires need to be very recent as far as mfg. date.

RE: Gas theives got my neighbor

Catalytic converters, air bag assembly's all good money from metals dealers, and gypo body shops like to buy stolen air bags. Saves them a lot of money by selling them for new on a repair job. Along with the Toyota tundra being a favorite target the 4Runner is a favorite as well. Also any other ride that has decent ground clearance offering working room. As was noted earlier thieves use battery powered sawzall type tools to do their dirty work. In the west and southwest they like to hit parking lots at National and state parks where vehicles are left overnight up to and including several days while the owner is on a overnight or several day outing. Usually the gas tank is punctured too and they take what they can carry and let the rest run on the ground. Sooner or later some twit will come along and flip a lit smoke into that fresh fuel on the ground at one of these places.

RE: Barrel key

It looks like you are in the same town where you purchased the coach. Why not go back to Gamel's place and hold their feet to the fire and make them comeup with the keys you need. This is typical of their shoddy service. Make them do their job.

RE: Generator runs only while holding start???????

After you check all the cheap stuff, oil level switch, etc, check out the voltage regulator (the expensive stuff) and or the #307-1886 relay in the control box. (cheap stuff) I Don't remember the relay wiring diagram number. The voltage regulator is part #305-0809-01. These are old numbers now and may not still be in use. The board usually does not cause this problem. Normally it is the voltage regulator and of course it is 225.00 to 275.00 bucks. Anyhow check these numbers. Hope this helps.

RE: Merging traffic

As an aside, I've heard (but not confirmed) that on Arizona freeways, the merging traffic has a right of way. I kinda pooh-poohed that, but the person who told me about it then pointed out the complete lack of "Merge" (or "Yield") signs on the freeways down there. Not true. The person coming on the freeway in Az.does not have the right of way. Look again and you will see all kinds of yield signs directed to the traffic coming on. Many entry ramps in the Phoenix area even have stop lights that are in use during rush hour. At that time every car has to stop for the red light and can only go when the light turns green. Then the guy behind goes thru the same routine before he can enter the freeway. The timing of the lights is coordinated with the traffic movement.
